Why it is number two
In my Top Ten film, Val d’Isère comes immediately behind Zermatt. I love the feel of a proper mountain town, the restaurants, the mountains and the scale of the skiing with Tignes. It is a combination that makes me want to come back.
The trips behind the opinion
The April 2025 trip features in my documentary and the podcast, and Episode 26 returns to Val d’Isère and Tignes during an early-season road trip. The review film pulls those interests together into a guide to the skiing and the stay.
Choose the terrain for your level
The review includes the famous Face de Bellevarde, but the existence of a celebrated challenging run does not make it the right choice for every skier. Build your day around suitable terrain, visibility and current conditions. The village experience and linked area offer different ways to shape the trip.
Village, lifts and evenings
The film covers getting around, restaurants and après-ski as part of the whole holiday. For current shuttle routes, lift information and booking details, use the official resort site. Remember that nearby resorts in the Tarentaise are separate journeys: the Tignes link does not make every neighbouring resort lift-connected.
Snow is never a promise
High mountain terrain can be part of the appeal, but altitude does not guarantee an open run or ideal conditions. Check the current operator information before you travel; my footage records the conditions on the days I filmed.
