Why it is my favourite
In my Top Ten film I call Zermatt my favourite place in the world. It is about more than a piste map: the mountain, the village, the familiar faces and the feeling of arriving somewhere that has become a home from home. The crossing towards Cervinia, with a hot chocolate on the Italian side, is part of that memory too.
It was not love at first turn
My first trip in March 2024 was hard work. I skied with Harry Battison and Steve Jones and discovered how much I still had to learn. Returning in April, Jason’s explanations helped things click. That progression is a big part of why the resort means so much to me: these are real learning experiences, rather than a perfect holiday montage.
The trips behind the pictures
There was a snowy birthday visit with Jade in May 2024, then our anniversary and vow renewal at the English church that September. Family visits, summer skiing and more training followed. In March 2026, Simon, Meli, Benji and I took on the challenge of skiing all the slopes in two days, finishing with two minutes to spare. The podcast tells that story in much more detail.
What to take from my experience
Choose tuition and terrain for the skier you are today. The confidence I have here now came through repeated visits and coaching. A big mountain day, a family trip and a training week are different holidays; the episodes below show those different sides.
Planning a visit
Zermatt is car-free. Check the official arrival guidance for the train connection from Täsch, and the current lift and cross-border status before planning an Italian-side day. Weather can change the available connections; my past trips are not a promise of what will be open.
